Stupid Kills

Stupid kills will not be recognised. A stupid kill is when someone just types 3 or however many posts quickly without giving its opponent a chance to respond. These posts are usually short, sloppy and unrealistic.

The notion of three-post speed posting kills is non-existent here under any circumstances apart from that indicated on the entrance page of Jotunheim, and the home page of this website - that is Our killing of 'asses and urts' Who in Our opinion do not deserve the death of a Warrior.

Also, killing, attacking or capturing a lone Free Woman or slave is classed as stupid, will not be recognised and may result in retribution from The Torvaldslanders.

Note: Assassin Kills are not acknowledged or recognised see Home Page and Entry Page to Jotunheim.

Death Fight

A Freeman of Jotunheim must be present to witness the fight.

Depending on the two combatants, 2 neutral and objective judges (preferably Jarls/Ubars, Seconds or First Swords) must be present PLUS the Jarl of Jotunheim or His Second in Command. Example, if a Turian and Tuchuk fight, the judges can't be Tuchuk or Turian. If You are not neutral and You can't be objective do not accept the duty of judging.

The judges votes are final and no questions asked.

Both combatants must be willing to fight and agree to the set rules.

Both combatants must state their weapons and what they are wearing before or as they step onto the Leather. Each combatant can have up to 3 'feasible' weapons. (Feasible means those weapons that are:

  • (a) Gorean - no katanas, ninja weapons or such are allowed.
  • (b) Realistic - not 3 axes for example (two quivas count as one weapon. Any more than two count as one per quiva).
  • (c) The use of bows, and lances is not permissible, use of bolas is not advised as the distance between fighters denies adequate and sensible use.
  • (d) One shield. (A shield counts as a weapon).
  • (e) Helms and bucklers will not be counted as weapons unless used in attack rather than defence.

Note: The Leather is the 'field of action', it is a 10' x 10' square of leather cloak, surrouded by an additional square 12' x 12' and marked by wands at each corner

The rules of the fight -

    1. Be realistic.

    2. The combatant who called the fight, gets first post.

    3. Four (4) or Six (6) posts each with maximum:
One (1) Positional Movement and Two (2) Weapon Actions per post.
Weapon Actions are obviously dependent on whether the post is an Attack or a Defence post.
    Posts flow as following:

    Fighter 1 Post 1 - Attacking
    Fighter 2 Post 1 - Defending
    Fighter 2 Post 2 - Attacking

    Fighter 1 Post 2 - Defending
    Fighter 1 Post 3 - Attacking
    Fighter 2 Post 3 - Defending
    Fighter 2 Post 4 - Attacking

    Fighter 1 Post 4 - Defending
    Fighter 1 Post 5 - Attacking
    Fighter 2 Post 5 - Defending
    Fighter 2 Post 6 - Attacking

    Fighter 1 Post 6 - Defending

    4. Movements to the action, within the action and away from the actions are not included in the count, but may be addressed in the response. Movements which represent avoidance or parry WILL be counted as actions.

    5. There is no such thing as 'forced action posts' - All posted action will be assumed to be INTENT and so capable of being Blocked, Parried or avoided. The use of words describing what the strike is intended to do is encouraged as this will show the possible feasibility and realism of the strike.

    6. If 2 actions are the content of one string of action: eg. "hacking to Your right shoulder with My short sword.... then raking the sword across Your chest".... , then if the first action of hacking the shoulder is blocked or parried the second action is also deemed to have been blocked or parried .. ie. the actions stopped with the blocking of the the shoulder hack. This means that the rake across the chest need not be acknowledged or dealt with.

    7. If Your weapon is cut from You, ie. You were wearing it, You maybe able to retrieve it, if it's close by. (remember #1)

    8. If You drop Your weapon, You can not retrieve it.

    9. Movement outside of the perimeter dilineated by the 'wands' will in the first instance incur a penalty, the second instance will forfeit the fight.

    10. Acknowledgement of wounds is up to You but remember #1.

    11. Time allowed for response posts is 3 minutes 30 seconds using server time. Penalties for overrunning time:
    *   Up to 4 minutes = minus half point.
    *   4 minutes and under 4 minutes 30 seconds = minus 1 point.
    *   4 minutes 30 seconds and under 5 minutes = minus 2 points.
    *   5 minutes and over = forfeiture of the fight. Opponent is declared winner.

    12. Shield bearers are not allowed in Death fights.

Judges, You are to look for proper acknowledgement of wounds, the flow of actions, feasibility and strength of strikes and the skill displayed between the two fighters, then decide which fighter was the better.
See scoring of strikes:   Scoring rules

Honour Fights and Training or Sport Spars

The same rules as for the Death Fights apply except both combatants walk away from the fight alive and all strikes are assumed to be of wounding not killing strength.
Shield bearers may be allowed in Honour Fights and Spars if both parties agree.
If a Combatant feels He is clearly losing and outmatched He may surrender the verdict to His opponent by cutting Himself spilling His Own blood onto the leather. This ends the fight/spar, and His opponent will be declared the winner.
Posts during Training Spars may be interspersed with advice from the Warrior supervising the Spar.

    Capturing rules

If a slave enters without a collar, she can be captured by any Free Member who is in there, that is a risk she takes when on Gor. Captured slaves should be chained for a period of 2 days during which their worth and belly can be ascertained prior to collaring.

No slave with a collar or observation tag, ie, ~o~, can be captured.

The capture must be completed with at least two posts, so the slave knows what is happening.

    Why?

    1. If she doesn't want to be captured, she has the choice of fleeing or placing a ~o~ behind her name and You're not wasting Your time with her.
    2. She does want to be captured but wants to play hard to get.
    3. She doesn't want to be captured at first but if the capture is exciting enough she might submit.

    An example...

leia is dragged into the Great Hall by armed Guards....

Han notes the pretty slave leia as she enters not as an observer OR wearing a collar.... [capture intent clear to A/all]

leia's eyes widen in surprise at Han and the thought of capture...

Han strides quickly over to leia, grabbing her by her hair, manacling and chaining her. The girl is Jotunheim's! [capture done in 2 posts]

    Raiding Rules

    1. All raids, to be recognised and interacted with must be by prior arrangement with the Jarl.
    2. No one gets killed in raids but they do get hurt.
    3. No Free Women or slaves are taken unless pre-arranged.
    4. Raids are done to get something of value not for malicious intent.
    5. Fighting is to be realistic yet good-natured. Time is to be given for opponent to respond to each strike.
    6. More to come soon....
